"Brides Through the Decades" will be the summer exhibit at the Lansing Historical Society Museum. Although the exhibit has been mounted in June for many years, it constantly changes. New gowns are donated every year, adding to the rich history conveyed by the wedding trends from Victorian times through 2000. The display features photos of many of the brides and commentary about fashion trends and history from each era.
The exhibit also includes wedding photos of people of Lansing both past and present. The goal has been to unite the community in the good will that is universally felt toward young couples just starting out in life. The display contains photos of ancestors' weddings as well as recent ones. One can trace the family lineage through three generations in some cases! We plan to keep this project going for a while, even after we put away the gowns. So please send in your wedding photos. We'll make a copy and give the original right back!
"Brides Through the Decades" will be featured in the museum, located in the lower level of the library. For more information or visits at other times, call 708-474-7497.
